Have you ever been in a situation where you felt like you could not speak up and say your idea or opinion?
Have you ever feel like you cannot look someone in the eye because you felt not sure of what you are saying and do not think that you are being taken seriously or that what you have to say or do have any value?
Do you often walk with your head held down and not have a smile on your face?
Do you fear being in front of a lot of people and tend to shy away from engaging in conversations?
All of these examples above are the mindset and result of lacking confidence and belief in yourself.
In being confident, the first step is becoming self-aware of the problem…that is you acknowledge that you have a problem from within with feeling confident and believing in yourself.
Here are a few tips to help you to become more confident.
1.Smile- wearing a smile on your face will induce the “happy hormones” in your brain and often allow you to feel positive and happy. ( others will smile back at you as well as you wear a smile on your face)
2. Hold your head up high when you are walking
3. Think positive thoughts about yourself
4. Speak positive words out loud about yourself each day. ( affirmations eg. “I am confident”, “I love myself”, “my opinions are valuable”, “ I can do anything I put my mind to do” etc (come up with your own affirmations)
5. Practice looking someone in the eye when you are speaking with them
6. Reject fear when you feel fearful and challenge yourself to do one action that may scare you, such as speaking to a stranger in the line at the DMV or on the bus or train.
7.Pray, meditate, do some form of exercise eg yoga, running that will allow you to think clearly and increase mind focus on the things you set out to do
This is not a complete list of things to do to be confident, but it is a starter guide with recommendations that I have used in my own personal life. You see, I too have struggled with being “shy”, not confident in myself and my abilities and what I have to offer to others and the world. It has taken a lot of practice and commitment event to this day to maintain my confidence. I promise you though, that once you start to change your mindset and your negative thoughts about who you are and what you are not capable of doing, and instead focus and have a positive mindset, as well as practice these tips, you will see soon that confidence is a skill and a mindset that can be learned and can get better each day as you see more and more results in your life.
